A Long Island man drowned minutes after entering the water at a popular beach after being caught in rough conditions and a rip current.  Benjamin Kitburi, age 31, died at Ditch Plains Beach in Montauk, around 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 19. When officers arrived on the scene for a 911 call of a swimmer in distress, they found Kitburi, a resident of Montauk, had entered the surf minutes earlier with two others to take a swim, said Capt. The incident took place in East Hampton during the early morning hours on Saturday, June 18. The man assaulted the victim in the early morning hours near Atwell Steet and Muri Boulevard, said Det. East Hampton Man Killed After Losing Control Of Vehicle, Police Say A Long Island man was killed after allegedly losing control of his vehicle and hitting a tree, police said.  The crash took place in Suffolk County around 6:40 p.m., Wednesday, March 23 in East Hampton. Jefferson D. Eames, age 53, of East Hampton, was driving a 2011 Yamaha motorcycle northbound on Accabone Road when he veered off the roadway and struck a tree, said Lt. Montauk Man Accused Of Growing Marijuana Plants On His Property A 56-year-old Montauk man was nabbed by East Hampton Police for allegedly growing marijuana on his property. Joseph Noll was arrested on Sunday, Sept. 8, after police found marijuana growing on his property on Fleming Road without destroying the plants, East Hampton Police said. When police visited the home they found two potted plants on the north side of his home. He was charged with unlawfully growing cannabis and released on an appearance ticket.
