8 Mosquito Samples Test Positive For West Nile Virus In Suffolk County More mosquitoes carrying West Nile virus have been found on Long Island, health officials announced. Eight mosquito samples tested positive for the virus following testing done at locations around Suffolk County, according to County Health Commissioner Dr. Gregson Pigott. The samples were collected on Tuesday, Aug. 9, and Wednesday, Aug. 10, from Copiague, Cold Spring Harbor, Setauket, Aquebogue, Bay Shore, and Nesconset. Suffolk County Reports Two More Cases Of West Nile Virus Two new cases of West Nile virus have been confirmed on Long Island, according to the Department of Health. Suffolk County Commissioner of Health Services Dr. Gregson Pigott reported this week that two additional cases of West Nile virus in Suffolk County, bringing the total to seven over the course of the year. According to health officials, the first new case was in the Town of Southold in a resident over the age of 50.
