Off-Duty Suffolk County Firefighter Pulls Man From Burning Car An off-duty Long Island fire lieutenant is being credited for saving a man's life from a burning vehicle.  The incident took place shortly after 7 p.m., Monday, Dec. 7, when Ronkonkoma Fire Department Lt. Michael White was driving south on Hudson Avenue in Lake Grove shortly after 7 p.m. when he saw a vehicle on fire at the intersection of Schoolhouse Road and Cedar Grove Avenue, the fire department said.  After calling in the fire, White quickly headed for the vehicle and found a person hanging out of the driver's side window in the burning vehicle.
