Update: 911 Disruptions In Suffolk County Solved, Police Say Update:  An equipment failure leading to disruptions to 911 calls on Long Island has been fixed, according to authorities.  On Tuesday, Nov. 28, the Suffolk County Police Department announced that service disruptions, which were causing issues for those calling 911, have now been solved.  The news comes one day after the department provided an alternate number for callers who were unable to get ahold of the emergency center. ID Released For 26-Year-Old Found Shot, Killed On Long Island The identity has been released of the victim of a fatal shooting on Long Island. Police responded to a 911 call for shots fired in New Cassel in the vicinity of 166 State Street at around 8:20 p.m. Sunday, May 7. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 26-year-old man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, Nassau County Police said.  The victim was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead by a hospital physician. Police Issue Alert For Thefts From Parking Lots On Long Island Police issued an alert to Long Islanders about thefts from parking lots in the region. The Nassau County Police Department shared a series of tips to prevent these thefts on Friday, Sept. 16. Police said individuals should not leave purses or wallets unattended in their vehicle while they load groceries into the trunk, as thefts often occur when victims are distracted. The change, which begins Saturday, April 24, was announced by The Federal Communications Commission in this month's phone bills. The reason behind the change is the FCC has adopted 988 as a new three-digit number to be used nationwide to reach the National Suicide Prevention and Mental Health Crisis Lifeline starting Friday, July 16. Alisha Mingot, 15, was last seen on Tuesday, Dec. 15 leaving her Valley Stream home around 12:01 a.m., Nassau County Police said. She was reported missing to police on Monday, Dec., 21. Suffolk County Woman Found Dead In Apparent Drowning, Police Say An investigation is underway after the drowning death of a woman on Long Island. Suffolk County Marine Bureau officers responded to the Great South Bay, off of Venetian Boulevard in Lindenhurst, at approximately 1:50 p.m. Monday, Aug. 24 after a 911 call reported a person floating in the water.  Vita LaValle, 58, of North Babylon, was found unresponsive and pulled from the water by a Good Samaritan in a boat.
