One person was killed during a two-vehicle crash on the Northern State Parkway.

The crash took place in Nassau County around 9 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 28, near the Town of North Hempstead, said the New York State Police.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the crash occurred when a 2016 Jeep Wrangler traveling eastbound, struck the rear of a 2017 Dodge Durango traveling in the right lane, state police said.

The impact caused the Jeep to leave the roadway onto the right shoulder before striking a tree and catching on fire.

The driver of the Jeep died at the scene, state police said.

State Police are requesting that anyone who may have witnessed the incident contact State Police Farmingdale at 613-756-3300.

 All calls will remain confidential.
