A suspect is in custody in connection to a violent rape that happened earlier this week on Long Island.
According to Nassau County Police detectives, Adan Alvarez, 23, who is homeless, made contact with a 31-year-old woman on the social media site “Locanto,” where arraignments were made to meet at an Oswego Avenue residence in East Atlantic Beach on Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 8 p.m.
After meeting with Alvarez, the victim attempted to leave and was physically assaulted, restrained and sexually assaulted, police said. The victim was able to free herself, leave the residence and contact police after Alverez fled the home.
The victim was transported to an area hospital where she was admitted for a broken nose, fractured skull as well as other cuts and bruises.
A subsequent investigation ensued, where an extensive canvass was conducted and a composite sketch of Alvarez was created.

Upon arrival by Fourth Precinct police officers and Fourth Squad detectives, Alvarez was found in the shed where he was identified as the subject involved in the sexual assault.
