Police on Long Island have been investigating a string of high-end luxury vehicle thefts.

The Southampton Town Police Department issued an alert stating that in the past few months, local residents in Bridgehampton to Westhampton have reported their luxury vehicles stolen overnight.

According to police, the targeted vehicles have been Mercedes and Range Rover.

Police said that the community should take extra precautions when leaving a vehicle parked, especially overnight.

In response to the thefts, investigators offered a series of tips:

  • Lock all doors and set alarms on vehicles;
  • Park vehicles near motion detectors or video surveillance;
  • Park vehicles in locked garages;
  • Remove all key fobs or any hidden keys;
  • Remove all valuables from sight;
  • Make sure you have all passwords available for OnStar;
  • Call the police immediately if you find your vehicle missing.

Anyone that had their vehicles tampered with during overnight hours and has video surveillance has been encouraged to contact the Southampton Police Department by calling (631) 728-5008.
