14-Year-Old Bicyclist Critically Injured After Getting Hit By Pickup Truck In Moriches

A Long Island teenager was hospitalized in critical condition after being struck by a pickup truck in Suffolk County, police said.

Stephanie Pesantez, 14, was riding her bike on Beaver Spur in Moriches shortly after 6 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 12, when she entered the northbound lane of Jerusalem Hollow Road.

When crossing the road, police said that Pesantez, of Moriches, was struck by a 2013 Ford F-150, which was driven by Jason Demme.

Pesantez was transported to Long Island Community Hospital in East Patchogue and later transferred to Stony Brook University Hospital in critical condition. Demme, 48, and his passenger, were uninjured.

The incident is currently under investigation by the Suffolk County Police Department’s Seventh Squad. Demme’s vehicle was impounded for a safety check.
