It happened around 12:10 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8 at Baldwin Bay in Baldwin.

Officers responded to the residence on Bay Front Drive for a welfare check on a 29-year-old woman, according to Nassau County Police said.

Upon the officers' arrival, the woman jumped into the water in the rear of her residence, according to police.

The water current immediately started taking the woman away from the shore. Officers jumped into the water but were unable to reach her safely.

The officers found a nearby rowboat and were able to reach the woman, who was more than 50 feet from shore.

With the assistance of Nassau County Police Marine Bureau, the woman was safely returned to shore and was transported by a Nassau County Police Ambulance to an area hospital for treatment. There were no other reported injuries.
