The 45-year-old Bay Shore man, who prosecutors are not naming to protect the child’s identity, was found guilty of multiple sex crimes by a Suffolk County jury on Thursday, Feb. 22.

Prosecutors said the man abused the girl on three different occasions between August and October 2021 while her mother was at work. At the time, she was 10 and 11 years old.

The abuse ended when the girl sent a text message to 911 reporting that her stepfather was trying to have sex with her, and that he had sexually abused her three times in the past.

DNA obtained through a sexual assault forensic examination confirmed that the man had abused her, prosecutors said. Suffolk County Police arrested him in December 2021.

On Thursday, jurors found him guilty of three counts of criminal sexual act, all felonies, and one count of endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor.

“This defendant preyed upon his stepdaughter to satisfy his own twisted sexual desires,” said Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney.

“First, I commend this young victim for her courage in contacting the police and then testifying at trial against her abuser.

"I also want to thank the jury for their attention in this case and for helping to ensure that this defendant is held accountable for his heinous crimes.”

The man faces up to 50 years in prison when he’s sentenced on Monday, March 25.
