Jurors in Saratoga County sided with the City of Saratoga Springs Tuesday, Oct. 17, after a two-week trial in the wrongful death lawsuit brought by the family of Darryl Mount. The young man was left in a coma after falling from scaffolding while running from Saratoga Springs Police officers at around 3 a.m. Aug. 31, 2013. $18K Scam: Contractor Took Area Homeowner's Money, Never Did Work, Police Say A homeowner in the region claims they were scammed out of thousands of dollars by a contractor who never actually did any work. Saratoga County resident Dakota Smith, age 28, of Malta, was arrested Wednesday, Sept. 13, on fraud and larceny charges, according to State Police. Troopers determined that Smith, who owns DAS Builders & Remodeling LLC, entered into an agreement with the Clifton Park homeowner for a renovation project. The homeowner contacted police in June 2023 saying they gave Smith a deposit of over $18,000 but he never started the work or purchased the needed materials. W…

In Albany County, the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society (MHHS) in Menands has reached “a tipping point” and can no longer accept strays from the public, the organization announced on Monday, Aug. 14. “As a shelter that prides itself as being a resource for our community, this breaks our heart, but we know that we need to care for those within our walls first,” the humane society said on Facebook. Firefighters in Albany County were called at around 3 p.m. with reports of a large commercial fire burning in Colonie on Kings Road. The address given is for BBL Construction. Man Accused Of Kidnapping, Multiple Sexual Assaults At Hotel In Region, Report Says A 38-year-old man is accused of kidnapping a woman and committing multiple sexual assaults at a hotel in the region, WRGB reports.  Rensselaer County resident Travis Anderson, of Rotterdam, is facing a host of charges, including 18 counts of first-degree rape, 19 counts of criminal sexual act, and kidnapping, according to the Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Office.
