Mountain Rescue: Rangers Carry Injured Hiker Mile To Safety In Catskills Forest rangers carried an injured hiker a mile to safety after the hiker suffered an ankle injury in the Catskill Mountains. The hours-long rescue operation began at around 3:45 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11 in Greene County, according to the state Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC).  Crews were told that a hiker had been injured on the west side of Sugarloaf Mountain, near the town of Hunter. The Rensselaer County crash happened shortly after noon Monday, Oct. 3, in the Town of North Greenbush, on State Route 43 near Holland Drive, according to police. In an update at around 1 p.m., police said the cause of the crash was still being investigated, but speed had been ruled out and driver error is the likely culprit. Andrew Cuomo warned. There have now been 7,917 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in New York overnight, bringing the statewide total to 83,712. There were also 391 new deaths, as the total climbs to 1,941 since the outbreak began.
