Several residents and firefighters were evaluated by first responders following a gas leak at a Hudson Valley condominium complex that forced an evacuation. The incident happened on Saturday, March 9 in Putnam County, when a gas leak was detected in a building at The Retreat at Carmel condominium complex, the Carmel Fire Department said on Wednesday, March 20. Arriving fire crews soon smelled a heavy odor of gas and began to evacuate the building. Bomb Threat Evacuates Casino, Hotel In Region
Slot machines and blackjack games came to an abrupt halt after a bomb threat was made against a casino in the region. The Saratoga County incident happened at around 10 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 4, at the Saratoga Casino Hotel located in Saratoga Springs. Police said guests and employees were evacuated after a bomb threat was made against the property. Members of the Saratoga Springs Police Department and Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office swept the building using explosive detection dogs and determined the building was safe. A busy roadway in the region will be closed for at least 24 more hours after a massive brush fire that drew responders from departments in four counties. In Rockland County, a stretch of Route 9W in Clarkstown will be closed until at least Sunday afternoon, April 16 "due to trees still falling and some rocks," the Clarkstown Police Department said late Saturday morning, April 15. Hoax Bomb Threat In Region Under Investigation
A 911 call reporting an armed man with pipe bombs in the Capital District was all just a hoax, police said. Officers were called shortly after noon Monday, Aug. 15 following reports of a man who allegedly had a gun and had placed two pipe bombs in Schenectady near Webster Street and 7th Avenue. Responding officers blocked off the surrounding area and evacuated several nearby homes out of precaution, Schenectady Police said. Several buildings at Yale University in New Haven were evacuated after multiple bomb threats were reported on campus, officials announced. An alert sent out by the school said that the university has received calls about bombs being placed in multiple buildings on its New Haven campus. Police are investigating after two people fell ill after opening a suspicious package. The incident took place in Rockland County around 11:20 p.m., Sunday, March 21. Suffern Police responded with the Suffern Fire Department and Ramapo Valley Ambulance Corps to Parkside Drive for a call of two residents experiencing dizziness after opening a suspicious package, said Suffern Police. Sandy Hook Elementary School students were sent home Friday morning after the school received a bomb threat on the sixth anniversary of a mass shooting that left 20 first-graders and six educators dead. A threat written on the wall of a bathroom stall led to the evacuation of a Rockland County middle school. South Orangetown Middle School, at 160 Van Wyck Road in Blauvelt, was evacuated around 9:30 a.m., Monday after staff were made aware of the message, said officials with the South Orangetown Superintendent's office. Medical Center In Area Evacuated After Threatening Text
An area medical center was evacuated after receiving a threatening text message. The threat to the business, the Open Door Medical Center at 165 Main Street in Ossining, came in around 2:45 p.m. Tuesday, the department said. The building has been evacuated and the area is being searched for suspicious items by the Westchester County Police Special Operations Division. Main Street is currently closed to traffic. Ramapo High School students and staff received a scare on Thursday, after a chemical substance being removed from the chemistry lab forced an evacuation. Officers from the Ramapo Police Department, local fire departments and a Rockland County Hazmat team were dispatched to the school on Thursday afternoon, when school officials called for an evacuation of the building due to the residue of an old chemical substance that was located when removing cabinets from the lab.
