Freight Train Derailment Shuts Down Highway In Region; 2 Cars Plunge Into River Cleanup efforts are underway following a freight train derailment that shut down a major highway in the region. The Rensselaer County incident happened just before 9 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7, near Route 67 in Valley Falls. County officials said a Norfolk Southern train was carrying a total of 94 cars when 10 of them derailed near the Hoosic River. Of the 10 cars that left the tracks, two went into the river. Nobody was injured and it’s not believed that any hazardous materials were involved, officials said. The train was carrying plastic pellets and vegetable oil. Emergency crews now on …

39-Year-Old Struck, Killed By Train In Hudson Valley An investigation is underway after a person was struck and killed by a train in the Hudson Valley. The incident happened at around 3:35 p.m. Friday, March 10 in Ulster County in the area of Winsupply on Morton Blvd in the Town of Ulster. That's when the Ulster County Sheriff's Office says a 911 caller reported the CSX train striking the pedestrian.  The pedestrian, a 39-year-old man from Kingston, was pronounced dead at the scene.  His identity is being withheld pending notification to next of kin. Man Struck, Killed By Train In Area Police have identified a man who was fatally struck by a train in Rockland County on Tuesday night. The Orangetown Police Department received a call at approximately 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday, July 24, from a passerby who saw a man struck by a train on the CSX rail line just south of Bradley Hill Road. Officers arrived at the scene and tracked down the man, who has since been identified as Blauvelt resident Enda Caulfield, 36.
