Poughkeepsie Owes School District, Racks Up $1M Debt

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- New Poughkeepsie Mayor Rob Rolison recently got a bill from the city’s school district -- and it was a whopper, according to a report in the Poughkeepsie Journal.

The city, which is said to be struggling financially, owes the district about $1 million in unpaid and uncollected tax revenues, the Poughkeepsie Journal reported.

According to the Poughkeepsie Journal, Rolison said the debt -- which stretches back to 2012 -- reflects a pattern of money owed, not only to the school district but to state vendors and the county itself.

The new mayor said he is optimistic that the city will be able to work out the problem, the Poughkeepsie Journal reported.
