Joseph F. Gibbs, 82, Beacon Resident

BEACON, N.Y. – Joseph F. Gibbs, of Beacon, died Sunday, Jan. 17, at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital. He was 82.

He was born on Nov. 20, 1933, in New York City, to the late Bernard and Margaret O’Reilly Gibbs. 

He was a proud U.S. Navy veteran serving his country during the Korean War. He married Marjorie, “Bunny,” on July 18, 1959. He and Bunny moved to Glenham in 1971 to raise their family. He worked for UPS for 31 years and retired in 1986. After retirement, he went to work for FedEx until 1996. He was a hardworking family man. He enjoyed his family, crossword puzzles, playing lotto and had a great sense of humor.

He is survived by his children Joseph “Jo-Jo” Gibbs and his wife, Ellen; Bernard “ Buddy” Gibbs and his wife, Vikki; Peggy DelBianco and her husband, Louie; Lori King; Kenny Gibbs and his wife, Lisa; and Marty Gibbs; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and brothers Martin Gibbs and George Gibbs.

His wife died in 2008. He also was predeceased by his sister, Margaret Gibbs and a brother, Coleman Gibbs.

Friends may call Tuesday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Robert H. Auchmoody Funeral Home, 1028 Main St., Fishkill. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Joachim Church, Beacon. Interment with military honors will follow in St. Joachim’s Cemetery.
