Ex-Pleasant Valley Town Clerk Ordered To Pay $27K In Larceny Case

The former Pleasant Valley Town Clerk who was charged with grand larceny for stealing funds over a four-year time period entered into a plea agreement on Wednesday in Westchester County Court, according to Dutchess County District Attorney William Grady.

Margaret Hart pleaded guilty to third-degree larceny, a Class D felony, before Judge George Fufidio, who was sitting in as Acting Dutchess County Judge.

By pleading guilty, the  57-year-old Hart admitted she stole over $27,000 from funds collected by the Town Clerk's Office for various fees, Grady said.

The fees included monies collected for refuse tickets, marriage licenses, hunting/fishing licenses and property taxes, the DA's Office said.

If Hart makes full restitution of the $27,000, she will receive five years probation. She must also serve 300 hours of community service at the Pleasant Valley Food Pantry.
