Central Hudson issued an alert this week warning customers to never share any account or personal information with third parties, which may result in financial loss or identity theft.

According to Central Hudson Senior Vice President of Customer Services and Transmission Operations Charles Freni, a recent post on Craigslist offered a cash incentive to customers willing to share their Central Hudson username and password.

Freni added that Central Hudson is a member of Utilities United Against Scams (UUAS), a national organization of utility companies working to help expose the tactics scammers use and educate residents and small business owners on how to protect themselves.

“Customers must be extremely wary of these solicitations and should not provide personal account information to anyone. Unfortunately, scammers are clever, and customers must be vigilant in protecting their identities.” he added .“Spreading the word on the importance of keeping personal information private is one way to help prevent customers from becoming victimized."
