$2M Scheme: 6 Steal Property Deeds, Obtain Fraudulent Loans In Hudson Valley, DA Says
Six people, including a licensed real estate broker and salesperson, and a corporation, have been charged with defrauding homeowners in Westchester and fraudulently obtaining $2 million in loans by stealing property deeds, DA officials said.
The six defendants involved in the scheme, including three Westchester residents and a Long Island man, were arrested and arraigned in late June for their role in a scheme that allegedly defrauded homeowners in Yonkers and New Rochelle, the Westchester County District Attorney's Office announced on Monday, July 3.

NY Doctor Sentenced for Filing False Tax Returns, Ordered To Pay $245,212
A New York doctor will avoid prison after admitting that he filed false tax returns.
Albany County resident Ehab Kodsi, age 56, of Watervliet, was sentenced to pay $245,212 in restitution and pay an additional $25,000 fine Thursday, Nov. 3, in federal court in Albany.
The sentence followed Kodsi’s guilty plea to filing a false tax return and admission that he deliberately underreported revenue from both his pain management company in Queensbury, in Warren County, and his real estate company between 2015 and 2018.

Orange County Couple Sentenced For Tax Fraud
A judge sentenced an Orange County couple to community service and conditional discharge on criminal tax fraud charges.
John Quick, 68, and his wife, Mary Quick, 63, both from the town of Goshen, were sentenced Friday in Orange County Court for tax crimes involving the failure to report over $35,000 they had obtained from a developmentally disabled man living on their property, as well as other income, said Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler.
Orange County Court Judge William DeProspo also issued a restitution order requiring the Quicks to pay $35,783.67 to the man.

Goshen Couple Plead Guilty To Tax Fraud
A 60-something couple pleaded guilty to tax fraud for failing to pay taxes or report money they earned, according to the Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler.
John Quick, 68, and his wife, Mary Quick, 63, both of the Town of Goshen, admitted Thursday that they had not only failed to file state personal income tax for 2012, but also failed to report money they had obtained from a developmentally disabled man that had been living in a barn on their property, the DA's Office said.
As part of the plea agreement, the Quicks will repay $35,783.67 to the developmentally disabled man.

Middletown Man Sent To Prison For Tax Fraud
A Middletown man was sentenced to 1 1/2 to 4 1/2 years in prison, plus ordered to pay more than $58,000 in restitution for tax fraud, according to Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler.
Francisco Velez, 43, who was sentenced Monday, pleaded guilty in December 2016 to criminal tax fraud, admitting to the court that he failed to turn over sales and excise taxes due from his Middletown cigar store. He also never paid state or his personal income tax, the DA's office said.
In total, he owes $58,948.77 in taxes of which he was required to pay $25,000 on Monday.

Orange County Businessman Pleads Guilty To Underreporting Income By $1M
A 59-year-old Orange County business owner pleaded guilty to felony tax fraud for underreporting his income by $1,086,654, according to Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler.
Courtesy Maintenance, Inc., a Bronx-based commercial cleaning company owned by Alvaro Merino of Cornwall, pleaded guilty to evading taxes in the amount of $188,579, the DA's office said.
As part of a plea agreement, the corporation and Merino are required to pay all the outstanding taxes on or before March 8, the date he will be sentenced, Hoovler said.
