A significant power outage resulted in firefighters searching more than 20 buildings at a college campus in Westchester for people trapped in elevators. The incident happened on Wednesday, May 10 at SUNY Purchase College at 735 Anderson Hill Rd., which suffered a major power outage that resulted in a failure of communications, according to the Purchase Fire Department. Thousands are without power in part of the Hudson Valley after a large outage late Saturday afternoon, Feb. 18. According to Central Hudson, just before 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, eight outages are affecting 2,536 customers, including 2,507 in Orange County, mainly in the New Windsor area. A single-engine airplane that departed from Westchester County Airport crashed into a transmission tower in Maryland, causing a massive power outage and taking hours for rescuers to reach the two victims inside the plane. A high school in the Hudson Valley is closed on Tuesday, Sept. 13 due to a power outage. In Orange County, Warwick Valley High School is closed for both in-person and remote learning due to the power outage caused by a blown transformer, the Warwick Valley Central School District announced.
