A female, who was not identified, suddenly collapsed while walking on the trail. Officers contacted EMS and began administering first-aid until an ambulance arrived, the Monroe Police Department said.

Police credit increased patrols along the Heritage Trail since its expansion into Harriman. The Monroe Police Department now patrols three miles of the trail.

"We want everyone to know whether they enter into the Village of Monroe in a vehicle, on foot or on a bike, we are doing as much as we possibly can to protect them and make them feel safe", Administrative Sgt. Anthony Amatetti said in a statement.

Officers from the Monroe Police Department's Bicycle Patrol Unit will be assigned to patrol the trail in conjunction with the current group of officers that have already been patrolling the Heritage Trail on a daily basis.
