The field at Governor Park was doused with gasoline and set on fire over the weekend in an effort to dry out a playing surface that had been rained on in advance of Ridgefield’s scheduled game against Amity. Man Faces New Charges In Woman's Death On Candlewood Lake Charges were recently upgraded against an area man whose friend died after being struck by the propeller of his boat last year on Candlewood Lake. Gary Morrone, 66, of Watertown, who was originally charged with reckless operation of a vessel, failure to help a collision victim, and failure to immediately notify law enforcement of injury for the Nov. 19, 2018 incident, has also been charged with criminally negligent homicide and reckless boating. Bear Struck, Killed On Highway In Area A bear was struck and killed by a vehicle on I-84 in Newtown on Saturday, causing minor injuries to the occupants.  According to Chris Collibee, a spokesman for DEEP,  the department was notified by the state police that the 80-pound untagged bear was hit around 7 p.m. on the westbound side of the roadway. "Bears being struck by vehicles is extremely common with roughly 50 to 60 per year being hit," Collibee said.
