SOMERS, N.Y. – A group of Somers students who formed a charitable organization called Let's Play It Forward earlier this year delivered more than 1,000 baby and pet items and other goods to Staten Island’s Hurricane Sandy victims on Sunday.
Baby items, cleaning supplies and new underwear were dropped off at the Guyon Rescue Center, and dry cat and dog food, cages, and animal blankets were taken to the Staten Island animal shelter.
Meanwhile, a group of Let's Play It Forward boys and their dads pitched in to help a family relocate their possessions, while others spent the afternoon at the Rescue Center stocking the shelves and helping to prepare meals for victims.
In addition to devoting their own time and energies to the project, the group collected donations from various individuals and from Mount Kisco’s Tommie Copper; Mount Kisco Dental; Cardillo’s Deli, Froggie’s Deli and Crossfit in Somers; Katonah Hardware; and Neri’s Bakery in Port Chester. J&R Tours of Mount Vernon provided transport at a special discount.
