Ball To Hold Conference Call On Busing Limits

SOMERS, N.Y. — Due to overwhelming public response to state Sen. Greg Ball’s position on private school busing, the telephone number for his planned conference call at 6 p.m. Wednesday has been changed to (559) 726-1200, access code 127034. The new number has the capacity to accommodate broader participation.

In December the Lower Hudson Council of School Superintendents recommended that mandatory busing of students to private schools be eliminated or, alternatively, reduced to a five-mile radius in consideration of budgetary constraints.

At a public forum at Kennedy Catholic High School on March 15, Ball; the Rev. Mark Vaillancourt, principal of JFK; and alumni and parents spoke out in protest of the elimination of busing and demanded a wider radius. More than 400 people attended.
