SOMERS, N.Y. - Somers State Police conducted a Speed Enforcement Initiative on Wednesday, focused on I-684 and Route 35 in Somers.
In total, 68 tickets were issued. The majority were for speeding. The Highway Safety Initiatives are intended to reduce deaths, injuries and property damage caused by incautious driving, police said.

Somers State Police arrested Vito F. Vacirca, 63, of Carmel Wednesday at about 11:30 p.m. for driving while intoxicated. Police said they saw Vacirca driving irregularly on Route 202, not maintaining his lane and crossing hazardous markings. A test showed his blood alcohol content was .10 percent.
