SOMERS, N.Y. - Here are a few of the top stories from this week in Yorktown:
- Somers voters selected the three candidates to fill the three vacant seats on the school board and passed the proposed 2013-14 district budget Tuesday. The budget passed with 1,192 affirmative votes and 469 negative votes. Ifay Chang led the way for the candidates garnering 1,047 votes, Donna Rosenblum took in 960, Joseph Marra grabbed 878 with other candidates Karen Frieri (850) and Richard Wagner (678) following.
- A flood advisory was issued Thursday in Westchester County as thunderstorms moved through the region. Also, a severe thunderstorm warning was issued for Westchester County Thursday afternoon. Radar indicated a severe thunderstorm capable of producing quarter size hail and damaging winds of more than 60 mph. The storm was located near Bedford, N.Y., and moving northeast.
- The Somers Memorial Day Parade and the 28th annual Antiques Fair at Somers' Lasdon Park and Arboretum are set for Monday and are the highlights of the Memorial Day events.
