It'll come as no surprise to those living there, but New York ranks as one of the worst states for retirement because many people of retirement age cannot afford to live there, according to wallethub.com.
Wallethub, a website calling itself "The Web's Best Personal Finance Resource," ranked the 50 United States and the District of Columbia, ranking each on a scale of 24 key metrics.
White New York ranks 44th overall, it actually ranks worse (48th) when specifically dealing with affordability. The state does, however, rank as the number 2 state for quality of life and 27th for best healthcare, according to Wallethub.
The top five states listed as best places to retire include:
- 1.) Florida
- 2.) Wyoming
- 3.) South Dakota
- 4.) South Carolina
- 5.) Colorado
- 51.) Rhode Island
- 50.) Washington, D.C.
- 49.) Hawaii
- 48.) Connecticut
- 47.) Vermont
