A school district in Westchester is reporting a new case of COVID-19 exposure.

Edward A. Kliszus, Superintendent of the Port Chester-Rye Union Free School District, announced Thursday night, Oct. 22 that the district was informed that an individual with COVID was at King Street Elementary School while infectious.

"Please know that only one classroom of students was exposed," Kliszus said in a statement to the community. "The parents of all students in the exposed classroom have already been notified via phone call.

"King Street School is working collaboratively with the Westchester County Department of Health. The Department of Health has ordered that all exposed individuals quarantine for 14 days from Tuesday, Oct. 13. They have further advised that all exposed individuals be tested for COVID-19."

The impacted class has switched to at-home remote learning starting Friday, Oct. 23 through the duration of the quarantine period, according to Kliszus.

The school building and the impacted classroom will be disinfected following Department of Health and Centers for Disease Control guidelines, Kliszus added, noting the school will begin contact tracing that will be communicated to the Westchester Department of Health.

"If your child is identified as a close contact of the person who tested positive, you will receive a call from a contact tracer," Kliszus stated. "For such calls, your caller ID may read NYS Contact Tracing or display a phone number with a (518) area code."
