Scarsdale Temple Installs New Senior Rabbi

SCARSDALE, N.Y. – Rabbi Jonathan Blake was installed Friday as senior rabbi of the Westchester Reform Temple in Scarsdale.

The service, held before about 600 congregants, friends and family, included musical arrangements under the direction of Senior Cantor Jill Abramson, along with a sermon and blessings by Rabbi Rick Jacobs, incoming president of the Union for Reform Judaism, according to a temple press release.

"I feel honored and humbled by the invitation to serve this remarkable congregation in a new capacity," Blake said.

Blake has served the temple since 2003. He spent his childhood in Allentown, Pa., and graduated summa cum laude from Amherst College in Massachusetts, where he majored in English literature. In 2000, he received his ordination from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in Cincinnati, where he received honors for academic achievement and homiletics. He also served Temple Beth-El in Rhode Island as associate rabbi and director of education.
