Katherine M. Balint, 106, Of Bridgeport
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Katherine M. Balint, a long-time resident of Bridgeport, died on Tuesday, Aug. 11. She was 106.
She was born in Budapest, Hungary, and her family sheltered Polish refugees during the First World War. Her family fled Hungary when a communist regime came to power.
Balint's family eventually went back, and she met her husband while teaching French in high school.
The couple lived in Ann Arbor, Mich., Buffalo, N.Y., and Switzerland, and she moved to Bridgeport in 1980, after her husband died.
Balint held multiple teaching degrees and was a frequent traveler.

Alejandro Garcia, 20, Of Stamford
STAMFORD, Conn. – Alejandro Garcia, of Stamford, died on Sunday, Aug. 9. He was 20.
Garcia was born on July 18, 1995 in Stamford to Patricia Garcia and Alejandro Garcia Sr.
He graduated from Stamford High School and was currently enrolled at Western Connecticut State University in Danbury.
He is survived by his parents, stepfather Stephan Sichler, and maternal grandparents Hector Garcia and Guadalupe Camacho.

PELHAM, N.Y. – Ralph Dominick 'Chic' Borsella, a resident of Pelham for 57 years, died on Monday, Aug. 10. He was 83.
Borsella was born in Mount Vernon on Nov. 10, 1931 to Ralph and Emma (Tanno) Borsella,
He graduated from New York University and served as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army.
He owned Ralph D. Borsella Allstate Insurance Agency in the Bronx and later in Rye.

Denise Valentine, 64, Of Yorktown
YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N.Y. – Denise Valentine, of Yorktown Heights, died on Aug. 6. She was 64.
Valentine was born in New York City on Aug. 11, 1950, to Raleigh and Barbara Valentine.
She graduated from Gorton High School in Yonkers and the College of Mount St. Vincent, earning bachelor of arts and master's degrees in education degrees.
Valentine was a special needs and a physical education teacher.
She is survived by her mother, Barbara, and three brothers, Raleigh Jr., Ronald and his wife, Phyllis, and Robert.

Anne J. Luciano, 94, Of Eastchester
EASTCHESTER, N.Y. – Anne J. Luciano, of Eastchester, died on Aug.11, 2015. She was 94.
Luciano was born in Mount Vernon on Jan. 5, 1921, to Michael and Anna DeLuca.
Luciano is survived by four children, Matilda Lucadamo and her husband John, Rosanne Gabriel and her husband, Michael, Maryanne and her partner Mark Boda, and Patsy and her partner Alice Autieri; seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a sister Clara Pugliese.
She was predeceased by her husband, Charles; a sister Mary Pennetto and her brothers, Pat and Angelo DeLuca.

Stuart Opdahl, Educator, Former Bedford Resident, Dies At 77
BEDFORD, N.Y. – Stuart Alden Opdahl, of Newtown, Conn. and formerly of Bedford, died on Aug. 7. He was 77.
Opdahl was born in Bethpage on Dec. 20, 1937 to Olaf and Clara Opdahl.
He graduated with a B.S. in Biology from Long Island University, a Master’s from Hofstra University, and a Permanent Certificate for School Administrator and Supervisor and School District Administrator.
Opdahl spent four decades in school administration, including working at Bronxville Public Schools, Valley Stream UFSD Thirteen, Hicksville Public Schools, Norwalk Public Schools and Oxford Public Schools.

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. – Several Westchester County communities were part of ValuePenguin's newest safest places in the state list, which was released recently.
Scoring a top 10 finish in the Big Cities category, which ranked communities with more than 20,000 residents, were Harrison (fourth), Mount Pleasant (fifth) and Yorktown (sixth).

Sally Ann Johnson Rollins, 82, Of Mamaroneck
MAMARONECK, N.Y. – A memorial service for Sally Ann Johnson Rollins, of Mamaroneck, will be held on Sunday, Aug. 30,
Rollins died on July 10. She was 82.
Rollins was born in Binghamton, N.Y., on May 24, 1933, to Kenneth and Sally Wood Johnson.
She attended the Knox School and Pine Manor College, serving as class president at Pine Manor, and was an active member in the community.
She was a volunteer at the former United Hospital in Port Chester and a member and past president of the Junior League of Westchester.
