MAMARONECK, N.Y. -- Marge Santangelo LaBrusciano of Rye Neck celebrated her 100th birthday on Sunday in Larchmont.
Repeating a line from the movie, "The Graduate," LaBrusciano boasted about working most of her adult life "in plastics,'' as a supervisor in a factory that manufactured handbags and other synthetic products as well as medical supplies. "I worked all my life,'' she said.
As a teenager during the Great Depression, her father's Village of Mamaroneck grocery store was forced to close, so the family turned to farming in Pawling, N.Y., and New Jersey. A native of Mamaroneck, LaBrusciano has lived most of her life in Rye Neck.
She's active at the Harrison Senior Center where her days-long partying kicked off on Friday.
Her daughters, Eileen DeFazio of North Carolina and CarolAnn DellaCrosse of White Plains and their children joined Sunday's celebration at Lenny’s Sea Food and Steakhouse, 2047 Boston Post Road, Larchmont.
Marge's cousin, Lucy DiQuinzio, who recently turned 101 years old, joined Sunday's family gathering. DiQuinzio lived in Harrison her entire life before moving to Stratford, Conn., in March.
Mamaroneck Mayor Norman Rosenblum made a guest appearance, issuing a proclamation marking LaBrusciano's 100th-year milestone.
"You missed a very good party,'' her grandson, Giovanni Gonzalez, a real estate broker in White Plains, said on Monday. "Once we get her going, she keeps us laughing."
Asked if she preferred being called Marge or Margie, LaBrusciano told Daily Voice: "You can call me anything you want."
Marge's late husband, Arthur LaBrusciano, was a longtime Village of Mamaroneck employee --- responsible for producing signs -- and a local volunteer firefighter for more than 40 years.
Several of LaBrusciano's great-grandchildren were unable to attend: Ashley, Nicholas, Robby and Amanda Amoruso.
