WESTCHESTER, N.Y. -- The 2013 Major League Baseball season opens Sunday night with a game between the Texas Rangers and the Houston Astros, and locally on Monday with the Mets and Yankees hosting home openers.
The Yankees face the arch rival Boston Red Sox at 1 p.m. and the Mets will host the San Diego Padres at 1:10 p.m. Monday afternoon.
The Mets, who are hoping to rebuild a franchise that has struggled over the last several seasons, finished with a record of 74-88 last season and fourth place in the National East Division.
The Yankees went 95-67 and won the American East Division title but were bounced from the playoffs by the Detroit Tigers in the American League Division Series.
