Dobbs Ferry residents Thursday thought Rep. Anthony Weiners announcement that he was resigning from Congress was the first good decision the embattled politician has made in a while.
"I think it's a good thing honestly," said Kyle Page on Cedar Street in Dobbs Ferry. "A senator shouldn't be in the Senate if he's sending scandalous pictures."
Weiner admitted to sending lewd pictures of himself to several women online. He faced increasing pressure from fellow Democrats to resign. Weiner originally denied the photographs were of him, though he eventually admitted he was in the pictures.
It was the lying that had some people glad to see him go.
"I guess he should do it based on the way he handled the situation," said Mike Egan, who was out in Dobbs Ferry. "Nobody's going to work with him now, even his own people are running away from him."
Christina Patterson, who was walking on Broadway, said Weiner did the right thing stepping down.
"Good for him. I wouldn't want to take that heat, she said, adding she felt badly for his wife. I'd be embarrassed.
