A trusty K9 helped lead police to 71 grams of cocaine, a nearly $30,000 US Treasury check, and a collection of fraudulent identification documents during a Westchester County traffic stop, authorities said.
The incident began when troopers stopped a vehicle near Sanford Boulevard and South 3rd Avenue in Mount Vernon on Thursday, Aug. 6, at around 7:06 p.m., New York State Police announced.

A driver was freed from a mangled vehicle after a head-on crash involving a pickup truck and minivan on a busy Putnam County road.
The two-vehicle crash happened on Route 52 in the Lake Carmel area on Saturday, Aug. 8, at around 10:25 p.m., according to the Lake Carmel Fire Department.
Firefighters arrived within minutes and found the pickup truck and minivan with heavy damage, with one person trapped inside a vehicle, the department said.

James J. Molloy, 61, of Yorktown, is facing felony charges after allegedly shooting and killing Luke, a 12-year-old shepherd-husky mix, during an incident on Route 118 in Yorktown on Wednesday, Aug. 5, as Daily Voice previously reported.

Town of Newburgh Police Detective Christopher Michael Thompson died surrounded by his family on Saturday, Aug. 8, according to his obituary. He was 35.
The Town of Newburgh Police Department announced Thompson's death the next day, calling his loss "untimely."
