Just before noontime on Wednesday, Nov. 9, officers responded to a report of shots fired in Peekskill on Central Avenue near Washington Street. Officers at arriving at the scene found a 31-year-old Peekskill resident lying on the sidewalk after being shot in the upper leg, the Peekskill Police Department. Black Bear Spotted On Busy Roadway In Hudson Valley Some Northern Westchester residents welcomed an unexpected visitor to the neighborhood when a black bear was spotted making the rounds in the area. The Peekskill Police Department issued an alert that there was a reported black bear sighting this week in the area of Welcher Avenue and Washington Street. While taking in the sights, the bear did not approach anyone or cause any disturbances. Man Killed While Walking Along Roadway In Area A 78-year-old man was struck and killed by a vehicle while he was walking on a roadway in Northern Westchester. The incident took place around 3:30 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 29, when William O’Connor was walking in the area of Washington and Requa streets, said Peekskill Police Lt. Jack Galusha. O'Connor, of Peekskill, reportedly suffered a serious head wound and was unresponsive when police arrived on the scene.  He was rushed to Westchester Medical Center where he died several hours later, Galusha said.
