Officers Race In To Help Rescue Two Kids During Stony Point House Fire Three police officers in the Hudson Valley are being hailed as heroes for helping to rescue two children after a house fire broke out. It happened in North Rockland on Saturday morning, March 13. When officers arrived at the scene in Stony Point, the house was fully engulfed in flames. As firefighters went to work, the officers swooped in and pulled two children to safety. State Cites Three Rockland Schools As Needing Improvement The New York State Department of Education has identified three Rockland County schools that are in need of improvement. This week, the Department of Education announced a new list of 370 schools that need improvement, including schools in East Ramapo and North Rockland. ID Released For Man Killed In Route 45 Two-Car Crash The identity has been released of the man killed in early Sunday afternoon after a fatal two-car crash with injuries. Michael Benson, 41, from North Rockland died after his taxi was rear-ended near South Mountain Road by a man who worked as an Uber driver and then hit a tree on Route 45, police said. The Uber driver was not injured. No charges have been filed, but the crash remains under investigation. The closure of approximately five hours was between the Palisades Interstate Parkway and South Mountain Road.
