Police Apprehend Spring Valley Burglary Suspect Amid Crime Spree In Mahwah
A group of Mahwah police officers quickly converged on a neighborhood during a string of burglaries and captured a Rockland County man.
Jorge Lopez, 18, of Spring Valley lost his Nike slides breaking into a home and stole a pair of footwear to try and make his getaway, Police Chief Stephen Jaffe said.
He was riding away on a stolen bicycle when township officers grabbed Lopez and found him carrying stolen jewelry and other items, the chief said.

A Hudson Valley couple had $530,000 in suspected drug money in their Route 17 hotel room, along with some heroin and illegal prescription pills, said Mahwah police who seized the cash and drugs while arresting them.

MAHWAH, N.J. – Mahwah police seized a loaded gun and $12,000 in suspected drug proceeds while arresting an ex-con after a Route 17 traffic stop, authorities said.
Officers Liam Kantanas and John Lange stopped the white Buick sedan for several violations -- failing to stay right, tinted windows and an obstructed view – around 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Police Chief James N. Batelli said.
