Incarcerated Gymnastics Coach From Hillburn Charged With New Sex Crime Against Child A popular local gymnastics coach already locked up for sexually abusing a child is facing a new allegation of sex abuse. Joseph Lewin, age 71, of Hillburn in Rockland County, also known as Joseph Lewandoski in the 1990s, was arraigned Friday, Sept. 30, on one count of felony sexual conduct against a child under the age of 13. According to the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office, Lewin sexually abused the female victim between 2012 and 2015 while working as a gymnastics coach at his gym in the Village of Hillburn in the Town of Ramapo. Support Pours In For Family Of College Gymnast Who Died In Practice Hundreds are rallying around the family of a 20-year-old college gymnast who died after suffering a spinal cord injury in practice. Melanie Coleman, who attended Southern Connecticut State in New Haven, suffered the injury on Friday, Nov. 8 and died two days later. She was reportedly practicing on the bars at the time she sustained the spinal cord injury. Following her injury, friends and family members set up a GoFundMe campaign that saw an overwhelming response from the community.
