The amphitheater behind the college's Cultural Arts Center was rarely used after being declared unsafe just a few years after it opened in 1973. College officials will spend up to $500,000 to demolish it and another another $800,000 to build a new performance space, lohud.com says.

Much of the money has been donated, and the project is part of a strategic plan to make improvements throughout the college. Work is expected to begin this fall, lohud.com reports.
