Rockland County Executive Reacts To Override Of Veto On Budget Items

RAMAPO, N.Y. -- Rockland County Executive Ed Day said he is very disappointed in the Legislature's vote to override all 22 of his line-item vetoes, reinstating 19 jobs in the 2016 budget, according to Lohud.com.

"I am extremely disappointed that the Legislature restored several jobs for which there will be no work in 2016 … the Legislature not only voted to override my vetoes, they voted against the taxpayers of Rockland County," Day said in a statement posted to Twitter.

Legislators voted earlier this week to override the vetoes of 13 full-time-equivalent security positions and also voted to override the vetoes of six county Finance Department positions that Day said would no longer be needed once the county-owned Summit Park nursing home closes, reported Lohud.com.

By overriding the vetoes, the Legislature returned about $1.3 million to the county budget, said Lohud.com.
