Ramapo Cops Bust Suspect On Marijuana Charge While Investigating Home Fire

RAMAPO, N.Y. -- Ramapo police arrested a suspect on a marijuana charge while surveying damage caused by a fire Sunday, authorities said.

The arrest came about while police were investigating a fire at a private residence, according to officials.

While inspecting the damage caused by the blaze, a small amount of marijuana was observed by an officer, police report.

One party was arrested; the suspect was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation, according to officials.

Ramapo police officers responded to five motor vehicle accidents Sunday, including two in Montebello, and one apiece in Hillcrest, Wesley Hills and northeast Ramapo.

Minor injuries were reported in one of the accidents.

Police rendered assistance in 109 calls for service on Sunday, including 20 alarm activations, three fires and eight medical emergencies.

A total of three arrests were made, according to officials.
