DWI fugitive sex offender arrested after driving through closed Lincoln Tunnel lane

BEYOND BERGEN: A fugitive sex offender wanted by police in Florida had an open bottle of Remy Martin at his feet and alcohol on his breath when he was was stopped overnight for going through a closed Lincoln Tunnel toll booth, Port Authority police said.

Ricardo Hernandez, 40, Queens stumbled and tripped after getting out of his 2001 Chrysler following the 2:30 a.m. stop, the authority’s Joseph Pentangelo said.

He also had an open bottle of Scotch behind his seat and a phony driver’s license, then failed a field sobriety test, Pentangelo said.

Officer Brian Cassidy took Hernandez into custody and had the car impounded.

Investigating further, police discovered Hernandez’s real identity and an active warrant out of Broward County for a parole violation.

Bail was set at $50,000 on charges of being fugitive, forgery, hindering and DWI. Hernandez was also issued several traffic summonses, Pentangelo said.

Broward County officials also issued a detainer.
