Much of the time at Tuesday's school board meeting focused on a new STAR Assessments program from Wisconsin-based Renaissance Learning to track and improve student progress at district schools, lohud.com reported.

Other plans include improving student data record-keeping following the involvement of the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Civil Rights responding to racial discrimination complaints by the Spring Valley NAACP, according to lohud.com..

Wortham also plans to have a non-voting student representative at board meetings, and hold community meetings to get feedback, lohud.com said.
