A ribbon-cutting was held on the site of what will become the 87-room, eco-friendly hotel that is slated to open in 2018 in the Spring Valley Marketplace, said lohud.com.

Spring Valley Mayor Demeza Delhomme told Daily Voice he worked for more than two years to bring the hotel to the village.

"A hotel of this size and style would not come to Spring Valley unless they see a healthy picture for the future," he said. "The hotel will attract more businesses and, more importantly, business travelers to the area."

The mayor added the new businesses and visitors equals employment for area residents and could have an impact on other companies he is trying to lure to the area.

"I'm working with several large businesses to come to Spring Valley and I plan to travel to Washington, D.C., to attract even more," he added. "We are working to clean up the village and fix the roads and offer good tax incentives to entice business development in our village.

The $10 million endeavor will encompass 15,102 square feet of space, and feature a signature indoor swimming pool, as well as modern-looking, large windows and plenty of extra amenities such as complimentary bikes and Wi-Fi, said lohud.com.

According to the company website, this is the group's third Element Hotel with one in Times Square and one in Harrison, N.J., added lohud.com.

Element is part of the Marriott International chain of hotels that include Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide, said lohud.com.
