This Area School District Ranks First In New York In Spending New York is home to some of the nation’s finest schools and school districts, but which are spending the most and least to educate students? A newly released report from syracuse.com evaluated the upcoming budget numbers for hundreds of districts in the Empire State to determine how much each is proposing to spend on each student. The report found that the average spending is approximately $19,155, with some districts spending as much as $152,539. Voters In This Area District Rejected School Budget Proposal The overwhelming majority of voters in the Hudson Valley approved school budgets and bond proposals, though one area district went the other way. Voters in Minisink Valley in Orange County rejected both the proposed $97.46 million budget - which came with a 7.97 percent tax levy increase, exceeding the state’s cap - and a request to purchase 10 new school buses for more than a million dollars. Brewster Voters Reject School Budget; All Other Putnam Spending Plans OK'd By just 119 votes, Brewster taxpayers defeated a proposed $99 million school budget on Tuesday. The vote was 808 against to 689 supporting next year's spending plan.  The school district and Board of Education will now have to come up with a revised budget for a second vote before resorting to a contingency spending plan.  Brewster voters, meanwhile, passed a ballot issue to borrow $754,000 and buy new school buses, by a vote of 835 to 660.
