Report: Three Hudson Valley Locales Among Top 10 Safest Communities In Nation Four New York communities, with two in Westchester County, made a list of the country's 10 safest small towns, compiled using rates of violent and property crime, compiled by Safewise.  The town of Lewisboro in Northern Westchester, which has a population of 12,823, had no reported instances of violent or property crime in 2019, and placed first nationwide. Report: Poughkeepsie Initiatives Dropped Crime Rates 50 Percent In Last Decade Poughkeepsie’s crime rate has dropped by a staggering 50 percent over the last decade, according to a new report. Between 2009 and 2018, crime decreased by 50.9 percent in the city. Similarly, violent crimes dropped by 48.2 percent. These statistics come from a decade-long study conducted by the State Division of Criminal Justice Services. City officials say that the report, issued Monday, April 1, is indicative of success for the police department’s tactics as well as the county’s alternative crime-prevention programs like the Stabilization Center. New Rankings: These Westchester Locales Among Safest In State A new report from Safewise.com named nearly two dozen Hudson Valley municipalities among the 50 "safest cities" in New York.
