For the first time in 40 years, the four-wheel drive Ford 450 truck chassis was voted to go with a four-wheel drive Ford 450 truck chassis after having all "van fronts" on the department's rigs.

Since the 4x4 truck chassis rides high, mechanics have installed an “air dump” switch both in the cab and at the back door of the patient compartment. This switch lowers the back of the rig and provides a safer working height for the EMS crew.

The box of the ambulance was in good condition, so instead of having to purchase a new rig, First Priority Group of New Jersey did the work, which authorities say saved approximately $100,000.

Driver certifications are underway, and EMS members are in the process of restocking the cabinets inside and out.
