A 21-year-old man stopped on Route 6 in Carmel on Sunday had a counterfeit New York State Inspections sticker affixed to the windshield, state police said on Monday.
State police from the Brewster barracks said they had stopped the vehicle driven by Miguel O. Melendez of Carmel because the vehicle did not have a front license plate.
Melendez was charged with criminal possession of a forged instrument in the second degree, a Class D felony.
Melendez was arraigned in the Town of Southeast Court and remanded to the Putnam County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond.
