Carmel Man, Firefighter Dies From 9/11-Related Illness, Family Says

CARMEL, N.Y. -- A Carmel man who served as a firefighter in New York City has died due to an illness contracted from working at Ground Zero following the 9/11 terrorist attacks, according to the LoHud.com.

The family of Thomas John Kelly, 58, said he contracted throat cancer after working in the Lower Manhattan area following the attacks. He continued to work for FDNY until the cancer forced him to retire in 2005, LoHud.com said.
