POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corporation sponsored the Catharine Street Community Center’s annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Breakfast on Friday for a 25th consecutive year.
Friday morning’s edition attracted more than 500 supporters to the Mid-Hudson Civic Center in downtown Poughkeepsie.
“From the very first breakfast celebration held 25 years ago, we’ve supported this annual event in recognition of a great leader and the coming together of our community,” said James P. Laurito, president and chief executive officer of Central Hudson. “We’re proud today to continue our support for the important work of the Catharine Street Community Center.”
The annual breakfast brings together civic organizations, leaders, students and all members of community to celebrate the power of diversity, said Laurito. During 25 years of sponsorship, the utility has provided more than $30,000 in support of the center via the breakfast; Central Hudson has additionally provided consistent leadership via the Catharine Street Center’s Board of Directors.
“The Catharine Street Community Center also hosts our annual Community to Work program, which provides opportunities for recent high school graduates to seek internships at Central Hudson that could lead to potential employment,” said Laurito. “This program offers valuable work experience to qualified local residents and helps us identify the leaders of tomorrow within our workforce.”
